Rimowa, the storied manufacturer behind the world’s best luggage, is no stranger to collaborations. Over the years, the historic German company has teamed up with everyone from Porsche to Supreme to Tiffany. But the product of its latest collab differs from all those projects in one fundamental way: it’s not a suitcase …. it’s an espresso machine. And it’s a very, very good-looking one.

Released ahead of the 2024 Milan Design Week, the Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini is a unique variation of La Marzocco’s home espresso machine, the Linea Mini. But instead of the a smooth metal exterior as traditionally found on the machine, the brands added grooved aluminum panels that echo the look of Rimowa’s iconic luggage.

Each panel on this unique variation of the La Marzocco Linea Mini comes from Rimowa’s factory in Cologne, Germany.

Each of these panels comes from Rimowa’s factory in Cologne, Germany, a statement said. They’re not the only thing: the Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini also features a custom portafilter, knobs and feet — all crafted from Rimowa’s signature aluminum. Each machine is then assembled in Florence and takes up to 40 hours to complete from start to finish, the brands say.

A Tale of Two Icons

At first, the Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini that feels like it’s been pulled out thin air. But sometimes the most interesting collabs are. From a pedigree point of view, it kind of makes sense.

“This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration and the possibilities that arise when two brands come together with a shared passion and purpose,” says CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert.

“Together, we have crafted an exceptional example of two iconic synergized brands that create a brilliant design,” adds Guido Bernardinelli, CEO of La Marzocco. “Both historic brands that work to pioneer in their sectors, synonymous with quality and durability, have come together.”

Unlike most of the collabs you see, the Rimowa x La Marzocco Linea Mini boasts bespoke details that reward a closer look.

If I’m being honest, that all sounds like the type of marketing jargon that I usually ignore. In this case, however, the machine looks so good that I kind of buy it — or least am fine to tolerate whatever they say.

Neither brand has yet to reveal how much the machine will cost, or even how many will be made. But the OG Linea Mini starts at $5,900, so expect a premium from there.
